We've marked the name on by punching holes in a paper cartoon and transferring the design with Sharpie fine point pen through the holes onto the hull. The pounce wheel we bought didn't do the job as the holes were too small and the talc/chalk inhibited the stickiness of the tape. So Nina punched holes one at a time with a push-pin and we marked them one at a time with the pens. Tedious but it worked. The pen marks are easily seen, even through the Scotch Fine Line tape, and they remove easily with MEK.
Nina has finished taping the design of the boat name to the aft ends of the amas. Here the letters are taped off and sanded, then taped again with the green masking to block out the main color, leaving the space for the black drop shadow, which will be painted first.

I am in the background putting the final finish coats on the galley sink countertop.

Above, the black drop shadow has received two coats and the green tape removed. On the right, the main color rust was cut in by hand along the black edge while the Fine Line tape defined the outer edges.
And here is the final result. Small details were added by hand. All received a nice clear-coat of Rust Oleum 9700 polyurethane.

It'll be great to see this artwork outside in the sun where one can stand back to look at it! Right now, the amas have only about four feet of clearance from the sides of the barn. Makes taking photos hard too...
